THANK YOU! - TYR Summer Classic 2010

Talk about a fantastic meet!  This summer’s TYR Summer Classic was one for the record books, literally, headlined by Ryan Murphy’s National Age Group record breaking 57.76 in the 13 & 14 100 meter Backstroke.

Not only was the swimming sensational, the volunteer support was absolutely incredible.  Despite the overbearing heat and long hours dozens of Bolles parents stepped up to officiate, time, work in concessions, help out in hospitality, and generally make sure that all of us came together to put on a fantastic meet.   And what a meet it was!

While Ryan dazzled everyone with his history making 100 backstroke (and nearly history making 200 backstroke!), many other swimmers stepped up and gave impressive performances. If you happen to spot Lauren Neidigh on the pool deck make sure to congratulate her on making not only her first Junior National qualifying time, but her second and third as well.  Lauren’s unabashed determination resulted in Junior National cuts in the 200 Butterfly, 200 I.M., and 200 Free.  Lauren’s 2:04.98 in the 200 free was helped along by teammate Megan Fonteno’s lifetime best of 2:05.98.

These kinds of swims represent the performances that were easy to notice because they happened in the finals and ended with resounding wins. But some great swims were under the surface, so to speak, such as Walker Hill’s huge drop in the 200 meter Breaststroke with a 2:52.77 or Robin Landy’s multiple best times and subsequent J.O. qualifications. Other great swims happened between sessions, such as 8 year-old Jackson Kirk’s first ever J.O. qualifying time in the 50 meter Free or Andrew Sugishita’s 9 second drop in the 100 meter Butterfly or Kensey McMahon’s first ever 100 meter Butterfly , which ended with a 1:26.27.

With more than 700 participants in the meet there are too many storylines to give each swimmer his or her due.  Suffice to say our Sharks truly stepped up as individuals and as a team, one that includes all of our coaches and parents. This kind of team effort is just as important as records, rankings, and qualifying times.  It is representative of the fact that we are all working together to achieve real and important goals, and none more important than giving our swimmers the best opportunity to swim to their personal potential.

Thank you to everyone who took part or volunteered in the  meet and let’s keep working together towards achieving great things!
